ASMQ Summer Scholarship
The Australian Society for Microbiology (ASM) QLD Branch offers Summer Awards—a fantastic opportunity for undergraduate students to undertake a short (around 4-week) research project in microbiology.
Eligibility:
Undergraduate students in QLD studying Microbiology or related disciplines (including Honours students).
Projects must be supervised by a sponsor with a track record in microbiology.
Sponsors must be ASM members at the time of application.
Submissions open in November each year.

Call for abstracts
The Australian Society for Microbiology QLD branch is seeking research abstracts from its student members.
If you are a current member, your abstract could win you
FREE registration, economy airfare, and a $500 accommodation allowance
and a chance to present your research at
ASM 2026 Conference in Sydney, Australia
12th – 15th July 2027
Submit a 250-word abstract on YOUR latest microbiology research for judging. Please see attached guidelines.

ASM Dena Lyras Early Career Researcher Award
The Australian Society for Microbiology QLD branch is seeking research abstracts from its ECR members.
If you are a current member, your abstract could win you
FREE registration & funding towards airfares/accommodation
and a chance to present your research at
ASM 2026 Conference in Sydney, Australia
12th - 15th July 2027
Submit a 250-word abstract on YOUR latest microbiology research for judging. Finalists will present in-person at the State Finals which will be held with the Nancy Millis student awards in February. Awards will be presented on the night.

BACPATH TRAVEL AWARD 2026
Eligibility:
• Student (HDR) or ECR (<5 years post PhD)
• Submitted an abstract to BacPath 2026
• Post event written article on BacPath experience for ASMQ newsletter & website
• Current ASM financial member

ASM FRANK FENNER AWARD
"The purpose of this award is to recognise distinguished contributions in any area of Australian research in microbiology by scientists in a formative stage of their career, rather than to reward senior scientists for a lifetime of achievement."

"The aim of this award is to encourage ASM members involved in teaching microbiology at the tertiary level to attend the annual scientific meeting of the Australian Society for Microbiology and EduCon."

ASM STUDENT & ECR INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL AWARD
Applications are invited from the Australian Society for Microbiology for the ASM Student & ECR International Travel Award. This award enables up to two PhD students and up to two Early Career Researchers (ECRs) from the ASM to attend an international Microbiology meeting and combine this with a visit to a research laboratory.
