ASM Queensland Committee Overview
Committee roles:
Chair:
The Chair is the leader, responsible for guiding all work and ensuring achievement of objectives. They preside over meetings, set agendas, facilitate discussions, and manage the committee's overall progress. The chair also acts as a liaison between the committee and the national branch.
Vice Chair:
A Vice Chair assists the committee chair and stands in for them when needed, ensuring the committee's smooth operation.
Treasure:
The Branch Treasurer shall be responsible for the daily control of Branch finances, the presentation of a financial update at Branch Committee meetings and the audited financial statement presented at the Annual General meeting.
Secretary:
The Branch Secretary shall be responsible for communication with the national Office, the notification of Branch Committee meetings, keeping of minutes of Branch Committee meetings and General meetings, and dealing with correspondence on behalf of the Branch Committee.
Communications Officer:
The Branch Communications Officer shall be responsible for oversight of the Branch Communications portfolio and the management of all communications of the Branch Committee, including maintaining accurate and timely dissemination of information through official channels, such as newsletters, emails, social media, and the Branch Committee website.
Engagement and Events Officer:
The Branch Engagement and Events Officer shall be responsible for overseeing the planning and execution of all committee events, providing guidance on event logistics, timelines, and coordination, and working with members of the Branch Engagement and Events portfolio to ensure successful outcomes.
National Councillor
The Branch National Councillor shall be a Member of the Society, represent the Branch and present its views at National Council Meetings, advise the Branch on matters of national policy, and act as Chairperson of the Branch Qualifications Committee.
Ex-Officio:
The Ex-Officio committee members will be allocated, by the Committee, roles that are relevant to the activities of the Committee. Three to twelve positions available.
Student representative:
The student committee members will be allocated, by the Committee, roles that are relevant to the activities of the Committee. One to five Student representatives (no more than two student reps from the same institution offering a degree in Microbiology).
How to join:
Core committee roles are filled every two years, while ex-officio and student reps are filled every year at the annual general meeting (AGM), usually held in August. If you are interested in joining, please email asmqldsecretary@gmail.com for more information.
